A tartan is your clans colors. It is usually made out of wool and every clan has their own 'plaid' or tartan. It is a Scottish thing. The more colors in your tartan the more prestigious your family. The tartan played a big part in Scottish history, every clan could be recognized by their plaid and when a woman married a man from a differant clan she was to take their plaid.
