When I make cakes just for my husband, kids or my mom I'm fine but when someone else asks me to make them a cake I start freaking out! My Sister-in-law asked me to make my nephew a Thomas the Engine cake. I said ok but I'm sooooo stressed about it!!! I'm following a great tutorial (http://thomasthetankenginecake.blogspot.com/)but still I'm freaking. I made the face last week and I think it's a bit too big.....not sure yet so I'm worried about that on top of worrying about carving this cake, especially the round part!!! I wish I would have told her no now because I'm literally a nervous wreck. Aughhh.I dont know why I cant just relax and have fun..stressing makes it not fun for me. When I make a cake for hubby, kids, or my mom its fun & I enjoy it. I only stress when someone asks me.

You certainly have all the skills. Take a deep breath, you'll be able to do it and have a beautiful cake as a reward.

When is it due? are you able to do a trial run with it minus the face just to see how you are going to put it together? How bout trying it with poster board first(cut and taped into the shape(s)) or styrofoam just to familiarize yourself with the look of it. Doing that helps me tremendously especially with a carved cake.

I always feel the same way.If i make a cake for fun for friends and fam, then I don't stress if there are little mistakes here and there. But, if someone asks for a cake, then I always feel like it has to be perfect. Then I end up stressing out and sometimes make stupid mistakes b/c I'm not calm.

Try to relax and remeber that it is supposed to be fun. I'm sure it will turn out great! Good luck thumbs_up.gif

I have had a look at your photos and they are great. I love your bow on the cake, so much better than my first attempt. We are our own worst critics and we need to look at the positives rather than the practically invisible imperfections that only we see.

Be brave and good luck. The look on the child's face will say it all.

That happens to me too. When I had my first few wedding cakes I couldn't sleep a week before the cakes were due. I kept having nightmares. That still happens to me sometimes on any cake that has something difficult in terms of design or structure BUT i now always tell myself to remember the feeling after I finish each one!!!!

You've got enough practice and a good preparation for this cake...and mad skills too (from your pictures) take deep breath and don't forget that freezing make carving cakes much easier!

Good Luck!

Not only are your cakes FABULOUS but you also have more on your side than you know. First, you SIL will love you no matter what, second - we here at Cake Central love you no matter what, and third, in the grand scheme of things this is a drop in the water and with your Faith, in the end all will be fine.

So just remember, that EVERYONE involved loves you and that NO ONE is going to judge you and have fun with it.

Go back and look at your Lighting McQueen cake, take a deep breath and say "I can do this!" If you can carve a character cake and have it come out as well as the car, then Thomas isn't going to be a problem.
