I am looking at doing a cake with decorations that I would like to look like they are floating around the cake. I am thinking of some sort of wire that is strong enough to support royal icing items- about 1/16 thick and 1"-2" wide. However it is also flexible enough to kind of have the weight of the items pull it over so it is kinda arching over. I sure hope this makes sense. I have the idea in my head, but can't think of any material that is strong and flexible at the same time.
I am planning on starting this cake soon, so any ideas-links experiences would be great. Thanks in advance for any help.

We use florist wire... you can get it at most craft stores in a couple differant thicknesses. If you need to you can wrap it in differant colors with floral tape if you want like my daughter didin this photo..

You can also bend the wire into as much of an arch as you want.

Took a look at the lindy's cakes site and I believe most of those wires can be found at a local craft shop, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, some Walmarts. I figure most people in the states aren't going to have wire shipped from the UK. Good info to know what types of wire are used though!
