Definitely don't transport stacked.. you can use grip supports or place a little packing tape rolled over under your board and place in the box to keep it from sliding.. as for you box, you could put them in reasonable sized laundry baskets to keep them from shifing or rubber mats.... I have bought a couple of el-cheapo wooden serving trays at Michael's that have a 1 1/2 rim on the long sides and 2 on the handled sides.... this helps because I can place my box in there and it doesn't slide, then when I get to the venue, I pick it up and carry it via the tray without moving the box too much.. one word of advice.. Michael's has bottom line trays up to top of the line.. the bottoms lines ones have a very thin piece of board as their bottom base so if your cake is weighted, get something more sturdy... hope this helps!
