Sometimes when I mix Wilton's black coloring paste with my icing it turns green. It does not happen all the time so I am confused . Can someone explain--please!!
I am JUST learning that Wilton's colors are NOT good. The few times I had to use black, my icing turned dark purple. Never green. I have heard that Ameri-Color has the best colors but I have yet to try them.
I've only used Wilton colors and have never had a problem with them. I've heard that Americolors works much better, but I've got a lot of Wilton colors so I don't need to buy any at the moment.
I used to get purple with my Wilton colors too. Now I use Americolor, and sometimes it's a little greenish. If you get green, just add a little purple, and if you get purple, just add a little green and you should have your black.
I use the Wilton black, but I always start with chocolate icing and then add the coloring to that. You don't need as much black that way and I've never had it turn green or purple.
