I have a white fondant bow ready for my Sweet 16 cake tomorrow. Girl's mother informed me yesterday that birthday girl wants the bow to "be sparkly". She saw the technique on Food Network. I went to two Michael's yesterday looking for shimmer dust. I'm guessing this is what she saw (I've never used luster dust). Michaels was out of it. I have the sparkle flakes (the flakes that look like cellophane). Should I continue searching for luster dust? Is the dust that much better than the flakes that it's worth the search? The bow is already assembled. I was thinking of spraying the bow lightly and sprinkling the flakes or the dust (if I can find it)??? Any advice?
thanks!!!

I think it would be fine, if you can't find the luster dust. Maybe practice on some leftover fondant (if you have any) to see what your final product would look like!

Michael's doesn't carry the sparkle dust. You have to go to a cake decorating store to find this. It is wonderful stuff!! I mix a little with my luster dust and get great results. Good luck.
