I am going to be making a cinderella cake this weekend for my granddaughter's 4th birthday this is by the far the most elaborate cake I have attempted. I am using the wilton wonder mold and a round cake pan. Since the barbie cinderella doll is too tall for the wonder mold. How do I stack the two cakes and still be able to insert the doll It will have to be transported. Was wondering if the doll was enough support or if I should use dowels and a cardboard circle with a large hole cut out for the doll. Please help as I really wna this cake to turn out special for her. Thanks in advance.

When I do mine, I just put the wondermold cake on top of my 9" cake with just buttercream in between, no need to dowel or use a cardboard. The I then cut a hole in the center of the cakes, dig the stuff out, and then ice. (Don't worry if you can't get out the cake near the bottom of the hole, the dolls feet are small and will go though.) How your decorating will determine when to insert the doll. I wrap Barbie's legs in plastic wrap and insert and finish the details at the top of the cake. I've never had a loss during transporting. The buttercream does a good job holding the layers together. If you're really nervous about it, maybe insert the doll at the party, if the design allows.

I've done one of these dolls before, and I've got to do another one again this weekend. I found it works to use just the wonder mold without the 9" layer at the bottom. Remove her legs and use saran wrap to cover her bottom. Simply replace the legs once the doll has been removed from the cake.

When I used a full sized doll to make the wondermold cake, I put a 9" under it with dowels and a board under the wondermold. I did have to cut a hole in the board, but I felt better doing it this way.

Hey - check out my pics and I did a Cinderella cake a few months ago that sounds a lot like the one you'd like to do. When I did her, I bought a real Cinderella doll, and I didn't want to risk taking her legs off, since I read that some toy companies make them where you can take them off but some don't, so you may end up breaking it. I did the single layer cake underneath, covered that in white fondant, then did the Cinderella cake separately. I covered it in fondant before I put the doll in - otherwise it wouldn't work to try to put it on after she's in. Like the other person said - remove her clothes and wrap her in Saran Wrap from the waist down to make it easier to clean later on. I didn't scoop anything out - I just stuck her right in.
Hope that helps!
