on the cake challenge, the i think ,italian guy who ran his family bakery with the huge cake. did anyone see when he rolled his fondant with a special design roller to make an impression, then painted it with another roller with gold paint on it which gave a beautiful effect to the tiny gift boxes. i personally have never seen these design rollers would anyone know where to get them. i thought it was so neat!!!
you can go to cakesbysam.com and go to online shopping and you can find Impression Mats, Impression Molds, and Rolling Pins that have impression on it to make the design it a great site. you should also check his cakes they are wonderful..

let me know what you think..
that guy was so cocky, I'm glad he didn't win! It was clear he'd never entered a contest so big before. WHO would NOT practice their cake at least once? Kind of seperated the "Men"(Women too) from the "boys".
You can also try www.surlatable.com they have impression rollers or go to the store in person if they have one in your area.

On top of it all his cake was so cheap looking for a competition of that level, that type of cake should be saved for state fairs.
Although she didn't place, I really loved Kate Sullivan's Xmas Tree Cake. I love her fresh approach and the distinctive retro look to her cakes. Too bad the base cracked and one of the ornaments dropped off. I look foward to seeing her in the future.
I loved Kate Sullivan's cake too....felt so bad for her when it started cracking... That whole retro look she pulls off is just great, I think! I've been trying to come up with a way to try that Christmas tree cake on a much smaller scale...not sure about all of the logistics, though. Maybe next year..lol
I loved Michelles reaction at the end...Such sweet italian girl
You can tell she was very grateful and sincere, and has true love for the art.
I have to say I didn't like Kate's cake at all. I though the green color was horrid, it was all streaky and the ornaments looked like something for a baby shower, not christmasy at all.
I'm not saying I could do better but for a pro, I thought it was horrid.
I loved Michelle's cake the best, I like elegant and it was soooo perfectly pretty!
