Hello all. Does anyone know if you can purchase an oversized round cake taker? I have the Wilton one and I've purchased one from Walmart. I need one that is just a bit taller than those. I made a round cake last night and placed flowers in the center of it. I had forgotten that I used a thicker board and when I pushed the top of the taker down, it squished the flowers on the top icon_cry.gif Thanks everyone..

I don't know how tall you're talking about, but I got a Sterilite cake taker at Target that usually has lots of room on top. - I think I paid like $5 for it.

So far only one cake came close to the top of the carrier, and it was I think 4 cakes I had torted and filled. And just the very tops of the rosettes touched the top of the carrier.

Thanks so much for your reply. Yea, the one that I purchased from Walmart is the Sterilite one. I think that is slightly taller than the Wilton one. It was working fine for me until I used the thicker board and torted and filled the two layers. Maybe I'll just have to buy a masonite board which is thinner than the board I used. Thanks again...

Hi Butternut, I have searched and searched for one larger than the Wilton taker and have been unsuccessful in finding one. I'll be anxious to hear if there is one larger or if we are going to have to make up our own larger one. icon_rolleyes.gif

I bought one at Kmart [the Martha Stewart dessert carrier]It has an insert you can take out or leave in to carry 2 pies in it. It is 13 1/2" diameter x 7 1/2" high. I have put some pretty big cakes in it.

this may sound really dumb, but when i have an odd shaped cake that doesn't fit in a carried I use a regular card board box & just float a piece of plastic wrap on top just in case.

My b/f came up with a way to make niffty handles out of duct tape....

--if you take 2 long strips & put them sticky sides together
--then fold another strip over each edge so it is half on top & half on bottom of the first two ( this makes it stronger & keeps the glue from getting on your hands at the sides)
--then use 2 smaller strips to stick the ends of you new "handle" to the sides of the box
--just peel off one side from the box when you get where you're going & it will stick back on if you want to take the box home.

hope that made sense.
I know it's not glamorous, but it did me well for the first month or so when i was deciding if i really wanted to do this, & i have to carry mine about 10 blocks & on the subway to get them to work.

Hi Patticake1951 Thanks so much for your reply. You know what? I think that one might just work. What do you think Teekakes? If I measured correctly, the Sterilite container is also 13 1/2 inches in diameter but slightly less than 7 inches high in the center. So, the half inch or so extra in the Martha Stewart one may just make the difference needed. Alrighty, off to Kmart I go..... icon_lol.gif Thanks so much.
