You crack me up they look just fine like others say just add more and drift off to the right and left.lol

icon_redface.gificon_redface.gificon_redface.gif I haven't learned violet leaves yet, and the instructions say to use 366. icon_redface.gificon_redface.gif I'm hopeless thumbsdown.gif

Maybe you could draw a seam down the middle of each branch.

I thin once you add trunks they will be fine...

or add a "legalize now" sign and go with another theme. icon_rolleyes.gif

I would put more pressure as you make the leaves, while moving the bag slower. That will make the leaves wider. Now that I have seen both pictures, I think yours are a little too long. Other than that, I really think they will look fine. You can wiggle the tip a little to get some "ruffles" in the leaves as well.

Try again, I'm sure you can get it!

I think you've made the branches stick out too evenly, like a starfish. A palm tree's branches would naturally fall to one side or the other, like the part in your hair. Just avoid them pointing upwards and instead push them to the sides more:

You are awesome for being so honest AND helping her improve!!!

You were right!! Taking them off the aluminum foil did a lot of good. icon_lol.gif They came out really nice. I'll post a pic when all is finished!

i'm cracking up at this thread. this is SO something i would say! i remember several years ago when i started decorating i was trying to make BC roses and every single one of mine looked like cabbage! i was ready to cry.... it took MONTHS for me to get roses that looked like smething other than a garden veggie! and for the record, all of my palm trees start out as marijuana.... err... i mean..... they LOOK that way... until i add a pretzel...sweet jesus... i'll quit before i get this thread locked...lol.

Someday one of us will get a request for a marijuana cake...we will have to remember this post. Even though her palm leaves don't look like what I see drawn on t-shirts, we now know how to modify the technique and what tip to use so we can make them!

I'm sorry I couldn't offer any advice, but it sounds like you were able to solve the problem. Please post how you fixed it. Did you change what size cup you used for your former?

Hehehe, thanks for the laugh! I also see palm trees everywhere I go, but for some reason, in any kind of drawing form I have a HARD time with them (and I'm reasonably decent at drawing things by sight.) I have no advice, just wanted to let you know that palm trees might look easy but they are not! I still think you can get away with them with trunks. They will appear less marijuana-ish then.

icon_cry.gif I'm so sad that your saga is over - it was great for a laughter break and reminded me that I wasn't the only one who couldn't make my ideas come out right with the icing.

I really was expecting a fondant or gumpaste DEA agent to be peeking out from behind one of those dinosaurs!

All joking aside, I hope you are happy with your finished product. You should be proud - it looks great. thumbs_up.gif

Hey all you cats,
I really dig those palm trees! They are happening and made my mood ring turn purple. They would look rad under a black light and are groovy man groovy. I hope you made a lot of bread on that far out cake. It really blew my mind.

Got to split....
