You can also use candy melts coloured the same as your bow. It hardens a lot faster than royal as well. I used that the Cross and Zebra cakes in my pics.
If you are going to do the bow first and then on the cake I would suggest doing it on a piece of wax paper. I did mine directly in a bowl and had a heck of time getting it to release from it.
I make 'gum glue' from a little Tylose mixed in water.

I agree with the candy ments and the wax paper though I don't do mine in a bowl. On the last one I did I made a round piece of fondant to go under it. Added gum-tex to it, and let it dry. That away if they want to save the bow they can. ![]()
