How many dowel rods should I use to stack an 8 in. on top of a 12 in cake?

I use 4, if the cake is very heavy, i will use 5, I just add one in the center for good measure.

I like to use in Wilton plastic white dowels. I think they offer better support. I think if you used 4 you would be more than fine. If you use the wooden dowels. I would just make a circle where your cake board will sit. Maybe 5 or 6. I usually over-do just in case. I would rather it be over supported than cave in! icon_smile.gif

I learned to use 4 rods in my class.
But I never use for my cakes.

Thanks
