I haven't done this on a cake, but I did it in my hallway using stencils and plaster. I saw a cake on Confetti cakes website once where she did this with a floral/bird motif. It was beautiful...let me se eif I can find a link...

Bas Relief - French term for a sculptural carving, embossing, or casting that projects very little from the background- like a cameo.

I have used molds on cookies like springerle but not on cakes.

In Spanish bas relief is bajo relieve. For example. in a wood carving (sculpting) where the figure projects from the piece of wood.So I guess bas means low.

LOL - sorry. All I'm going by is the Lambeth book. He has a section on it.

Does anyone have an idea on how to get started in it? I have a dragon I need to pipe on a piece of gumpaste in bas relief.
