I'm pretty sure you need beginner classes under your belt before trying Lambeth... Where do you live?? Those classes are hard to come by.
I do not want to sound discouraging, but you should wait until you are sure that you have really good control of your piping bag, when using small round tips, before trying Lambeth method.
When you feel comfortable piping thin to medium consistency royal icing through 0 and 1 tips, with good control, then you should try it.
Probably the best way to achieve this would be to do some message writing in icing practice.

No.
Sorry to be so blunt, but as Theresa so skillfully put it earlier - this is a very advanced technique. The classes are intense and the technique is extremely advanced.
If you want to eventually take a class, what you can do is start working on piping. Lots of piping. And go to the smaller and smaller tubes. When you can pipe really small lines, super straight, you have a better chance.

Good luck. Let us know how it turns out for you.

I think you could jump right in and start with the Lambeth technique.
Unless you know the basics, that is exactly where you will be for a while....at the start.
The basics, patience, and precision are definitely requirements needed to accomplish the Lambeth method.
I know of no classes.
Some libraries still have a copy of his book. If you are one of the few that are able to sit in front of the puter all damn day and bid on ebay...you can possibly manage to win a bid against someone who wants to own every damn copy of his book to resell to someone else at triple the amount of the winning bid! oh sorry...oof...venting a bit. aaaaaaaaaargh...
Here's a link to another post about the lambeth method you might want to check out http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-21538.html HTH
Oh, all4cake, you noticed the price gouging on the Lambeth books, too? I know someone who is doing that very thing as we speak. I told her she was out of her mind, and that I would sell all my cake tools, etc, before I paid that kind of money for one book.
They are doing the same thing with Colette Peters Christmas book, too. The last auction I watched for it, it sold for over $150. I like Colette, I like her work, but I do not want any cake decorating book that much.

tnx for the advice, i'll carry every bit of it, and i will get there...no matter what..after lots of piping practice. ![]()
I did spend the money on the book and it is worth it. But I really really really wanna learn the Lambeth method.
