I like to make cakes for my kids birthdays and have never mastered how to frost the cake and decorate- I usually make some buttercream frosting and take out some of that to color and decorate-

Do you all have a system? Do you make 2 batches so that you can frost with one and divide the other one to color?

Is Buttercream forsting the best to pipe on for decorating?

Any other insight would be great!
Thanks so much

Depending on the size of the cake, I usually make a double batch of buttercream frosting and take out what I need to color. I frost and decorate with buttercream. You may need to adjust the consistancy of the frosting depending on what kind of decorations you are doing.

There are several really good recipes for buttercream under recipes on this website.

Hope this helps.

Welcome to Cakecentral!

I usually have tons of icing on hand, so I'm ready to go a moments notice~ I also save all leftover colored icing in little containers in the fridge, it always comes in handy!
