My father in law asked me to do a cake as a thank you to the staff at the dialysis clinic where he goes. He didn't really have any ideas of what he wanted, just as long as it "looks good," and "tastes good." Thanks!

I am a former dialysis patient so this post caught my eye. could you make a kidney shaped cake?

I am the PAM at a hospital with a few dialysis centers and I would think that anything for nursing would work - depends on if you want it funny or classic. A thanks with a nurse would be nice, or a floral display or (just thinking out of the cube) you could do something like an auto theme maybe a car with the hood up for an oil change would be funny.

I know the nurses go a great distance to make sure the patients are upbeat and in good spirits while they are there for their treatment. That's no small feat when we are scheduling treatments around the clock to accomodate everyone.

Hope this helps ~ icon_smile.gif

If the nurses are all women, I think something pretty with a simple "Thank you" is appropriate.

How about the Wilton Course 2 basketweave cake? It is very pretty, most of the flowers can be made in buttercream (freeze them to get them off the paper and place them on the cake) and it is not a difficult cake to do.

Well, I am a nurse and it is always nice to get something that says "thank you" without it being related to nursing (the people employed at the center are not always all nurses too!). I think a pretty simple thank you cake would be a very nice gesture of appreciation.

IMHO,

I agree roses or something floral would be nice. I have made cakes to the dialysis center were my mom goes and they loved the roses and basketweave. They also loved getting cupcakes since they didn't need to have plates and forks to eat them.

Ooh, Birdgirl, I think you hit it! A cupcake bouquet! Someone here knows how to make them, because I saw pics posted in a thread once. That would be so cool for them!

I love the idea that the pp had of the cupcakes!! Then it would be easy for them to eat and you could make it look very nice still. I am sure whatever you come up with will be great!
