i am making a two layer cake tonight as practice (an 8" and a 6" layer). i am hoping to torte and fill with mousse, then frost with bc dream. do i have to support my layers, or can i just stack one on top of the other? i don't have dowels or anything, so i was thinking about using drinking straws if i needed the support.

oh, and one more ? (sorry). do i frost the bottom of the top layer and then turn it upside down? or do i put just the plain unfrosted bottom on top of the frosted top of the bottom layer? (boy, i hope that made sense).

tia!

I just delivered one with those dimensions tonight. I put the 6" cake on a cake board and used sucker sticks to support the 6" cake. (Straws should work.) I completely finished the BC icing on the 8" cake but only had the 6" crumb coated before I placed it on top. Then I finished icing the 6" cake, and adding the rest of the decorations.

Don't know if that is how everyone else does it, but that is what works for me. Hope this helps.
