Hi,
I am new to this site and I first of all want to say what a wonderful site it is!!!. It's simply awesome!. I have been decorating using fondant for some time. I have 2 questions about gift package cakes. Firstly I have always wondered how people are able to makes quare gift package cakes look like they have an envelope fold at the side. It makes it looks so realistic. The 2nd question is to do with the square and round packages with lids. How they are able to create the illusion of a lid sitting on top of the package?. Any insight into these questions will be greatly appreciated.

thank you.

When you put your orginal layer of fondant down you just need to be pull tuck pull tuck pull tuck... On the lid cakes... They have put a second layer of fondant on them is my understanding... So it really isn't a illusion it is really there.

Welcome and hope this helps...

I've seen them done where there is just a dent pressed into the fondant for the folds, and a strip of fondant around the top to make the "lid" overhang.
