Well, DH and I are looking into buying our first house. There's a new subdivision where all the houses are less than 5 years old, a bunch are for sale with the extra beds and baths and the giant kitchen we need. And they're all for like, $300,000 which is right in our price range!!!!
I'm excited.![]()
That is very exciting! We are currently in our 5th house that we bought. We move a lot because my husband is in the Navy.
One word of advice, make sure you get a home inspection. They can sure find things on houses that need to be fixed no matter how old the house is. It is worth the couple hundred of dollars it cost! That way you can have the seller fix anything that needs to be done instead of you finding out after the closing.
Yes, I forgot about the home warranty. This last house we bought the motherboard on the furnace went out 2 months after we moved in. It only cost us $55 for the deducible instead of $1,000!!!!! I was sure glad we got the sellers to throw that in!
I am excited for you. That first house is such a big step. Here is a good one for you. My husband and I bought our first home in 1961, a 3 bedroom on 1/3 acre, 3 years old. Price? $13,500, our payments were $96.00 per month and we had to have his boss lie and say he made more money than he actually made in order to qualify. G.I. loan, nothing down and $200.00 closing costs.
In 1971 I had remarried, I had 4 children, he had 3 and we combined that family and added a child of our own. We bought a new home under construction, 3,200 sq. ft. 7 bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, 3 car garage on 1/2 acre lot. Price $59,500 and payments of $350.00 per month. Those were definitely the good old days. We sold the home a few year later for $75,000. That same house was on the market a few years ago for $850,000.
Amazing how times change shirley. My sister lives in the house we grew up in, she bought it from my dad 15 years ago for $80,000 and now it would sell for $250,000
Congrats on your new house. It is such a great feeling to know that it is yours and you can paint etc with out permission from someone else. Plus knowing that you are throwing $$ away on rent is a great feeling.
