The triangle tool that has all the grooves in it? I'm trying to make a SUPER quick cake....any tricks to using this? I know the icing has to be soft, but that's about it!

no tricks. just whirl it around the sides and you're done!

It's pretty easy like jmt1714 said, but I do try ice the sides with a little extra frosting. You're going to be removing some as you go and if it's not thick enough some of those groves will show cake.

It is a nice finished effect and not as time consuming as smoothing everything. - Good Luck

Yes, put on a lot of icing and apply gentle pressure with the tool as you turn the cake to remove the icing. It takes a few tries to get used to it, so be patient the first few times. And don't forgtet to put on lots more icing than you think you should and then scrape it off with the tool.

I think one of the things that makes it harder is holding it at a 90 degree angle to the cake. I find it a lot easier to use if you hold it at a 45 degree angle. then pull towards you. I wish I had one to show but I can't find mine. Hopefully it makes sense. If not let me know and I will get a picture.
