Ok- so I checked out the gallery and saw some pretty neat tie-dye cakes. I need to make one for my nephew this weekend. I need some ideas on how to do this- without airbrushing it. ( I am a Wilton instructor- and do not like their spray color). My thoughts are painting on fondant or swirling colored buttercream. Has anyone done any thing like this and can give me some ideas?

Perhaps I'm not on the same wave length - but wouldn't tie-dye be the same as marbling (using fondant) only using more colors icon_smile.gif

Here's a marbling thread:

At least this will give you a bump.

Good luck, and look forward to seeing pictures!

Hi Christabelle,
I did a tie dye cake in buttercream. I piped on all the colors in the pattern I wanted, then drug a toothpick through the design at a slight angle to make it look more like tie dye. Hope that helps.
