My Michael's is offering a Gumpaste class and the Fondant and gumpaste class. Which one do you think would be better. I work with fondant alot so I was hoping the gumpaste class would just focus on flowers. Anybody taken just the gumpaste class?

I don't know anything about the gumpaste class but, I heard that the Gumpaste/Fondant class covers really, really basic fodant techniques. The first class is all about how to cover a cake board in fondant.

Is it the gumpaste flowers class? If so, I'd say take that one! I haven't taken it yet, but plan to later this spring. Very few Wilton instructors are allowed to teach it though. I've seen some flowers made in that class and they're beautiful!

I am currently taking the Fondant & Gumpaste class through my local Michaels. The class should be taught for those who have taken Courses 1 & 2, but before they take Course 3. At least in my opinion. The third lesson teaches some flowes, which is next week. I will be interested to find out if there is another course on just the flowers alone. Otherwise I will be buying some books to teach me how to do more.

As a WMI I would suggest the gumpaste only if you have worked with the fondant a lot before. the fondant/gumpaste class covers a lot of fondant work

I took the gumpaste flowers course and really enjoyed it. We learned a number of new flowers, then used those to make two projects. (I guess since it's Wilton, they're all done the same way?) You end up making a plaque (that you glue the flowers on) and an arrangement (like in a vase, or whatever you like). The instructor gave us pretty free rein to take the project in a direction suitable to what we would like to make. I felt it was a really good introduction. HTH

That info helped me too! I am hoping that my Michael's teaches just the gumpaste class. I have already taken a one night fondant class plus course 3. I really want just gumpaste!
