Have you tried doing a search for smoothing icing etc? This has been discussed many times in the forums. This probably doesn't help but I'll bump you anyway.

The Viva method works very well, but I just tried the new Melvira method for the first time and it's amazing. I highly recommend it. You can find an article about it on the articles page.
