Here is a website: They appear to be some sort of decorative stamp imprint. http://www.cakesforallukshop.com/30260/info.php?p=10&cat=52057

I believe they are used to cut out a shape from flower/gum paste, which can be left plain or dusted and painted with powder or paste colours.

I have several sets of these. I love them! They are nothing more than small cutters for gumpaste or fondant. There is a trick to using them...rub a little shortening on the tappit (don't use cornstarch because you will lose some of the details in the cutters). Roll the paste very thinly, and cut out your piece. You can tap the cutter to remove the cutout, or use a corsage pin to tease the paste out. If you have trouble, either your paste is too moist, or you are not rolling thin enough.

I have several as well. I think the name should be changed to
Tappit, slap it, hit it, swear at it cutters

They are very frustrating to me, getting the letters out even with cornstarch on the cutter isn't easy. I once broke a blood vessel on my hand slapping the cutter against it trying to get the letter to release. If someone has an easy, fool proof way of doing this, please let me know? icon_cry.gif

Oh, I should have read the above post first. Maybe Crisco is the answer, I will try it.
