Can you do all of the vertical lines first and then do the horizontal ones?

I wouldnt. For basket weave you have to do one section at a time to get the effect, or at least to be done properly.

Me neither. For one, it's difficult to get the tip next to the vertical lines and not mess it up when trying to make a horizontal line. It's a much prettier effect when you do it just one at a time.

Thanks, I am going to do my first easter basket cake. I thought you had to do them individually but then I thought maybe there was a quicker way.
Wish me luck icon_smile.gif

It's not hard, but just practice first to get the rhythm

The previous answers were right, but I do mark the vertical lines with a straight edge all the way around the cake. Keeps it nice and neat and clean looking when they all are the same distance apart. Do one , then measure the distance for your spaces.
