I have a bride who wants grapes down here cake, These are little clusters pea sized. I have colored to marzipan and I think it looks good.
When I blew up the picture, it looks like they are on wire. Does any one have any suggestions on how to do this, did a trial run, not bad, but if anyone has any other ideas, that would be great. In the trial run, I put one grape on each wire then just added them all together. Also, what does one charge per grape cluster? My mother in law says that she took a wilton class and they said that the little flowers get $5 each. Suggestions?
Also, what to charge for the leaves?
Thanks!
Dana
That cake looks great. Also really hard to make i think. Not that i have ever made grapes before but i guess i would make a wire group first and then put the marzipan grapes on the frame. to the end of the metal wires. I just think that would be easier and also would allow me to add some grapes in between without wire.
as about prices i cann't help you. defenetly not cheap.
Good luck with it!
I think the best way to determine your price is to make one grape cluster (complete--dried/painted/dusted/with leaves and wires) and calculate how long it takes you in total. Multiply that time by how many clusters/leaves you need. You'll need to calculate your materials cost and your hourly rate for the labor (to make the decorations). Add that all together and then multiply by your total mark-up, then add it to the price of your cake.
I have seen a really great silicone mold for 3D (not 2D) grape clusters that looked a lot like the pearl mold. I think using one of those would be tons faster than doing it 100% by hand.
That's an awesome cake! I like it!! Good luck.
