Is there a difference between cake flour and self rising flour? I have a recipe that calls for cake flour but I can only find self-rising in this little town!

yes there is a difference. the biggest, i believe, is that cake flour is all purpose as in NON self rising. another difference is that cake flour is finer than regular flour.

i have used sifted all-purpose flour when the recipe called for cake flour but i would not suggest using self rising. my grandmother use to say that you could use self rising flour in any recipe as long as you left out the salt and and baking powder (or maybe baking soda) but i have never tried that.

just my two cents.
