I am having such a hard time tring to get this MMF as smooth as possible on a round cake dummy!!! I can get it smooth on the top, but I can't get it quite just right around the bottom edges such as it WRINKLES!!!!!! After I do the first trim, it starts to wrinkles around the outer bottom edges. What am I doing wrong?
Help me please!!!!!
Since you are using a dummy you could try this:
smooth the mmf on the top, then down the sides, making sure there's at least an inch of mmf around the dummy (this should allow for you to smooth all of the wrinkles out b/c they will fall into the mmf skirting your dummy). Then, make your first cut at 1/4 to 1/2 inch from your dummy. Using your spatula, press the mmf to the dummy as you rotate around. Then, carefully, press the mf under the dummy as you smooth and slightly lift. (So that the mmf slides under your dummy bottom.)
I did this the other day b/c the dummy I was working with didn't want to adhere to the fondant, even though I used a ton of rose water. It worked great sliding and pressing the fondant under the dummy, and gave a really smooth line at the base so I didn't need any piping or anything.
HTH
also, if you elevate the cake a bit it should droop down making the wrinkles be ablle to just cut off....![]()
