How Do I Make Grass

Hi all. I've just joined this website and I think its going to be great! My question is how do I make grass - I"ve read using tip #233 but then what? what type of frosting works best? icon_smile.gif

..I use BC icing that has been thinned with piping gel!

One of decorating books says to use green fondant....and then use a scourer (steel wool) to make impressions of grass.

Hi welcome! Glad to have you here and I look forward to seeing what new ideas and creations you can bring to the community here!


Just use tip #233 with royal icing or buttercream (which ever one you are working with). I use a medium consistency bc to do my grass. Too thin and the "blades" will blend together and not look separate or stand up if you want them to. I like to mix up the look of my grass, some standing straight up, some so long that they bend over!

I just use regular buttercream..the same bag that i use for the leaves and vines, i just change the tip and it works great!

A quick way to make grass is by coloring coconut green and place on cake. I have used this technique many times when decorating children's birthday cakes.
