Last night I made a cake for a friend. It's an 11x15 yellow cake with buttercream icing..nothing fancy. No torting or anything like that..just one layer. How much do you guys charge for such a simple cake? She paid me $15. Which I am fine with..I like making cakes for friends..and normally don't expect any money at all. But I may be making another cake very similar for someone else soon. It cost me about $10 to make(including cake board, etc) and it took about 3 hours to make the icing and decorate it..not including baking time. It's the cornelli lace cake in my photos. So what do I tell someone? It's so basic I feel bad charging much. Thanks for your input!!!!

I usually take my cost and multiply if by three ..... so that would put it around $30 ..give or take!

I would say $35-40. Don't feel bad about charging, you are providing a service (way too cheap!) that others want, with better quality than the chain stores. They have the choice of wether to purchase from you or not, but you need to value your time and creativity. Cake looks great! thumbs_up.gif

I charge $27.50 for an 11x15. I'm told it's too cheap (by my husband), but it's still more expensive than a bakery 3 blocks from my house. And way more than the grocery store bakery 1 block away. I'm not licensed, so I'm doing this as a "pay-for-itself" hobby. Decide what other places around you charge, and decide what you will be happy getting.
