Catering Referral Fee?

Hi!

A caterer has referred several wedding cakes to me this year. I was wondering if anyone knows of a standard referral fee for when caterers refer cakes. I'd really like to show my appreciation to him for these referrals.

I don't know what your relationship is to this person (i.e. do you know him/her very well or not well at all) but maybe you could offer him/her a gift certificate for one free cake depending on how much he/she refers you (upto a max. value).

What about calling other caterers and asking what referral fee they receive..or bakers and do it vice-verse. Hey..that might even drum up more exposure for you!

Also, as a caterer, I don't think I would actually expect a referral fee. I think I would return the favor and refer someone to him. It would mean just as much and could quite possibly make them more money. It would to me!

Thanks for the replies!

I met him thru a mutual contact (chef we both know) & then got to know him reasonably well when he started referring brides to me (for weddings at the venue he owns). It's always busy when I deliver & setup, so we haven't had long chats. But I'm grateful for the referrals.

I haven't ever had anyone ask me for a catering referral, but I will definitely keep that in mind. In the meantime, I will figure out a way to do a cake or two for some of his non-wedding events. With the holiday season upon us, there will probably be parties where this would work well.
