I'm VERY new to using fondant, so forgive me if this is a silly question...

I've colored fondant before using it, but if I want to wrap the cake in fondant first, and then color it (paint on it) I'm not sure what to do. I've read about mixing paste coloring with extract or alchohol and using that... should I do that when the fondant has dried some, or while it's still pliable?

thanks in advance!

Someone please answer- I HAVE to do this tonight and was just going to stay up until I got it right- but your tips would be so helpful.
Thanks for asking this bonniecakes.

Im actually painting a cake right now! The way I do it is mix gel paste or petal dust with alcohol or lemon extract. Mix it until it is the right consistency, not too thin not too thick. You can paint on fondant when it is pliable, but I would wait just until it starts to get a bit firmer. Do a test area, where no one can see, so you will know what the color will look like on the fondant! Good Luck!

Ok, Thanks. I bought some Lemon Juice. I don't think it is extract, but I will buy some. I hope it turns out good. Keep your fingers crossed and I will post a picture Wednesday.
