I have just dropped back into this thread after a few days.
Although I cannot name the airline of which I am talking I can prove the salary rate I stated earlier.
Not only do both my spouse and I work in aviation most of our friends do to. I know the couple that I speak of when I stated that yearly salary and they are really struggling. They are not the only ones.
Pilots go Time X before they ever hit 40 hrs. Also keep in mind they fly when they are told. So if your carrier is selling off routes like the dickens then you don't have much need for pilots flying a great deal. I was not referring to a 747 pilot but rather a large commuter that has over 150 jets of the 100 passenger type.
On another portion I agree with another statement made earlier too. It is very hard to purchase american.
Most people think that if they buy a Kubota tractor that they are buying Japanese versus John Deere. The truth be known, John Deere is mostly foreign and Kubota is 100% american.
Oh the tangled web we weave......
If it's something you believe in you will do your research.
I have very strong view, as you can tell. I find that the young and those in Management or born into a cozy lifestyle will differ.
At my age I've seen it for myself I can't be bluffed.
And with that said I will stay mute.
chiara, I hear you - but to me if someone is working less than 40 hours a week, then I don't have too much sympathy. $8000 a year isn't even minimum wage for full-time work - you'd bring home more by getting a job as a clerk. Sometimes you have to change jobs and it might not be something you'd rather be doing.
I almost stayed mute for 4 days, not bad for me. ![]()
I just wanted to add yesterday on the local news they annouced 3 more companys in MI cutting back one of them closing all together.
This is a daily news report lately. Thousand's out of work. Yesterday was also the last day of work at Fords for many.
Those in MI you know what I'm talking about, MI is drowning. I don't think anyone cares. ![]()
Some of you may not know that when they report unemployment numbers that are the people currently collecting unemployment. Those number do not reflect the number of people that their unemployment has ran out and they still can't find work.

that is a common misconception, but that isn't, in fact, true. unemployement figures have absolutely NOTHING to do with the number of people collecting unemployment. MANY people who are unemployed are not have never been adn will never be qualified to collect unemployment.
from the BLS: "The unemployed total from
the household survey includes all persons who did not have
a job during the reference week, were currently available
for a job, and were looking for work or were waiting to be
called back to a job from which they had been laid off,
whether or not they were eligible for unemployment insurance."
The confusion arises becuase the BLS also reports figures on unemployment insurance claims. The two items are completely different unrelated statistics but they get mixed up sometimes.
