A family member is hosting a birthday party for a 1 year old and a 21 year old!!! I offered to make the 1st birthday cake a while back and now I've been asked to do 1 big cake for the combined parties. I don't mind this at all, I just cant seem to come up with any ideas. They are both girls and I really had my heart set on doing a tiered cake (will be my first one) but I need ideas for design.

TIA

Maybe a baby bottle and a beer bottle?

That is a tough one, but you could do a central tiered cake theme (like teddy bears) to tie both birthdays together. Or you could do a theme for the 21st birthday (whatever she likes) and make a small teddy bear cake as the cake topper for the one year old "smash" cake!

good luck with your cake!

You could do a tiered cake with different themes on each tier. Like one tier for baby(teddies ,blankets, bottles), one for toddler(color crayons, school bus, Barbie stuff/dolls), one for teen(cars, cel phones, hearts, boys, make-up), then one for the 21 yr old(foxy's idea of beer bottle!) So the cake would show a "growing up" theme, and keep both included on it. Otherwise can just do girly/pink, like the princess pillows, and can even make a mini pillow smash cake! Just some thoughts that might give you ideas, HTH! Jen

I like the idea of different themes on each tier. The 21 year old loves butterflies.

I'd aim the cake for the 21 year old but make it girly if she is the girly type. The one year old is too young to know what is going on so she can't be insulted but the 21 year old can be. Make a special smash cake or cup cake with 1 candle for the little one. Make the tierd one for the older girl.

Maybe you could do a 2 or 3 tier cake where one side is done in pink, white, little silver with a baby theme to it (booties, rattle ect).

Do the other side in pink, white and a little black with a theme of high heels, neckless, earrings ect, or keep the whole cake in pink, white and silver.
For the top you could do a fondant bow with a 1 or 2 butterflys, or with flowers and 1 or 2 butterflys.

If you do the the 2 halfs type cake, you could where the 2 halfs would meet maybe do some flowers. Doing one side one way and the other side the other way would be nice when taking pictures also, turn the cake to the 1 year olds side take pics, then turn to the 21 year olds sides so pic could be taken.

I hope you can understand the concept I am trying to explain, it's hard to but in words what you really have picture in your head.
Good Luck With Your Cake,
CC Newbie
