I have seen a few people use cookie stencils. Where is a good place to find these? And, can you use frosting for them or should it be sugar or dust?

I got mine at www.designerstencils.com and you can use either technique. Jackie

You can also get them at Michael's, A.C. Moore, or Hobby Lobby. Look in the scrapbook section...probably anyplace that sells scrabook stuff would have brass stencils. I found that using RI was easier for me and it gave my cookies an added dimension. HTH

I never thought about looking at the scrapbooking section. I'll have to try that. Designer stencils definitely has some good ones. I wish I could find them locally, but I already checked out Hobby Lobby and they don't offer much. I'll try the scrapbooking section before I order them, but I see a few I like.

On my last set of cookies (last two photos in my album) I just traced what I wanted to make on parchment paper, then took a toothpick and poked the design into the cookie. Then outlined it in royal and flooded the sections. The dragonfly I did was from a brass embossing plate I use for making cards. The bunny was done with a rubber stamp.

fairytale,
how do you use the rubber stamp? do you just put the stamp in the royal icing and stamp it on the cookie?

I took some gel color and put it on waxed paper and smooshed it around. Then I took the stamp and stamped the color just like you would a stamp pad. Then I stamped the cookie. Then you outline the stamped cookie with royal and flood the centers. Just like coloring in a coloring book.

Oh-o-o, I love the idea of the stamped cookie. You people are going to cost me a fortune in new supplies. Since surfing this site, I've gone cookie crazy. I want to quit my job and do nothing but bake and decorate cookies!
