I have asked to make a King Cake. I have a recipe from Emerils.com But I was wondering if any of you have a tried and true recipe. In the recipe I have it says to insert the baby before it was baked. Somene on here posted one and said she put it in after she baked it. Are these really hard to make???

THANKS!!!

I can get a recipe for you but DO NOT put the baby in before you bake it. I have placed many babies in many kingcakes. Just flip the cake over and put the baby inside. I will get back to you with a recipe.

King Cake is a tradition for Mardi Gras in Louisiana. The cake was first baked in the Middle Ages on the Epiphany in honor of the Three Wise Men. It is an oval shaped bread-like pastry filled with cinnamon. It is decorated with purple, green, and gold sugar, and sometimes icing. A small plastic baby is hidden in the cake, usually the bottom. Tradition says the person who gets the baby in their piece of cake buys the next one.

It's a tradition that the person who finds the baby in the cake buys the King cake the next year for Mardi Gras. icon_cry.gif I never thought I'd say it but I miss New Orleans!

We used to have so much fun getting our place on the parade route, a ton of Popeye's chicken, a King cake at the house, a cooler of good stuff and wait for the Krewes to roll!

Here is some info in the King cake and the baby:
