I just had my first cake order and decided to go easy on myself. I put an edible imagine of the disney princesses on top and everything was fine. I put the finished cake in a cake box and on a shelf in my garage to keep it cold until it go picked up . When my friend picked it up the next AM the image had wrinkled icon_eek.gif I was so upset/embarrassed, what went wrong. It was fine the night before, was the garage too cold. Has this happened to anyone?

I've had them get air bubbles under them. And I've had them not adhere totally to the icing underneath. But, not really wrinkle. Now, as soon as I lay it down, I place a piece of plain paper over it and smooth the whole surface with a fondant smoother. I am kind of firm with the smoothing pressure. If you don't use the paper, you run a very high risk of tearing the image or smearing buttercream over it...or both. But, the paper makes it all neat and tidy. I guess Viva would work, too but haven't tried it. Anyway, once I started kind of "sealing" the image to the buttercream, I haven't had those problems.

I have noticed in the past that if it's a larger cake, and it's on a turntable when you put it on, that it will crinkle up a bit when you set it back onto a flat surface because the cake bows while on the turntable.

also, it seems to be finicky to the moisture content of your icing. The more moisture it has in it, the more it expands and crinkles... Rich's bettercreme always makes them wrinkle.

Better luck next time!!

Edible images can be so easy but they have their quirks. I too think the moisture content of the frosting is the problem. If it is too wet it tends to dissolve the image. I think if I were you I wouldn't put it out in the cold garage. Any sweating that will occur when it is brought into a warm room will change the image by making drip looking dots or lines.
