My SIL wants this cake for her wedding. What sizes do you think it is. Also, how many layers do you think each tier is? I've been guessing, but I'd like to know what others think.

Wouldn't it really depend on how many she wants the cake to feed? Then you would decide what sized to use to get the same look.

hmmm, i'd guess 14"(dummy?) 12", 10", 8", and 6". as far as how many layers on each tier... ya got me! that cake would have to serve a TON of people!

The cake is going to be a dummy, so I don't have to worry about serving sizes.

beccakelly, that's what I thought too, buit I'm just wondering about tier sizes. I was thinking (from the bottom up) 3", 6", 3", 8", 4"???

Anyone have any other ideas???

peacock I agree with you about the layers on the tiers. But why does she want it all dummy? What is she going to serve? Seems very unusual to me.

My thoughts exactly...why go through the trouble and not be able to eat it??? It is beautiful, though.

peacockplace:
I think you hit the mark on tier size.

(Re that dummy cake thought: Is she gonna hide a cheap sheet cake in back kitchen to serve her guests?) icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Wow, that cake is really beautiful...and she wants it all dummy???
I agree with peacock...about the layers...looks pretty close to 3,6,3,8,4...looks pretty close to that anyways...does she want the same colors as well? I love the colors! icon_biggrin.gif

I am making the dummy because she is getting married in Orlando and then her reception in here, about three hours away. I will be making sheet cakes to serve. She's doing dummys to make it easier on me. That way I can make it in advance and still attend everything. As for having the dummy after the wedding, I'll just save it for a show later in the year.
Thanks for the advise on the sizes. Hopefully those sizes will look right.

peacock, are you going to make her a top tier cake to save? my SIL had a dummy cake too, but there was real cake in a spot at the bottom to do the cake cutting, and she had a top tier to take home. I thought it was a good idea at the time, it saved her a lot of money.

Guess with a cake that size too you'd have to somehow make a super super large batch of the same 'matching' colored icing to make sure you didn't run out and have to retry to match it with another batch.

That's a wonderful solution. Are you going make the sheet cakes with the same color and flower theme?

i had a bride interested in that same cake. but she only wanted to feed 30-60 people! icon_eek.gif

so most of it was going to be dummies!

we were going to do the following:

14" tier 3" high
12" tier 6" high
10" tier 3" high
8" tier 8" high
6" tier 6" high

you can probably tell she wanted a really tall cake!!

she ended up chosing a diff cake b/c she didn't like my price on dummies!!

Hey pinkbunny, good to see you. I think it's a really great cake and I'm excited about making it. It's crazy when brides want a huge cake and only need to feed a few. They want the price of fifty, but the look of 250.

Lindsayu83, she didn't want a cake to save. I told her I'd make her a little one on their anniversary. I am cutting a space in the back to insert real cake so that they can cut it.

Ater looking at this again... do you think it looks more like (from the bottom up) 4,6,4,8,6??? I have to order the dummies now. I really need some opinions on this.
