That's right. A very beautiful home! Her kitchen has a large area in front of it where she puts the seating and she always has coffee, juice and snacks for the students. A very gracious and welcoming feeling. I found the whole experience warm and satisfying.
Susan Carberry is the instructor you were talking about. She's an amazing artist, very creative. Too bad she had to work so hard in the bakery on Saturdays, we were hoping to have her come down and demo at the Cake Show in March. ![]()
I miss seeing her too, she's always got a smile and she's so sweet!
Susan is the expert that teaches at Amy's. They have another expert at Do It With Icing. I believe almost all her classes are on Sunday's because she works Saturdays at the bakery in Dana Point.
I'm not on the SD cake club committee, but I know the people who are. The show is just a couple weeks away and I know they have quite a few great demos, all free! Are you going to make it down for the show?
The class went well, but we were short on time so they're going to extend it an hour for the next three classes (which I can't attend!!). It was informative, and we have homework. As soon as I finish it, I'll post a pic.
Someone mentioned that the new Martha Stewart book has a Lambeth cake. I haven't seen it yet. Apparently, this type of decorating is making a comeback. The instructor knows a woman who made a small dummie Lambeth cake that she rents out; she decorates the other tiers in a more modest Lambeth style. The customer gets the look without the normal high costs. Pretty smart!
There were a couple last minute people who came to class who were still taking their first decorating course. So they didn't have their icing needed for class or know how to make bags or pipe. It kind of slowed the class down. Plus quite a few of the students were late, and the instructor had to help them too. The next classes are only going to be for those that went to this class so that should help speed things up. Like Lsawyer said, there was homework to practice so the students would be ready to learn to specific techniques. There's no way to learn this stuff in fast.
