How Do I Cover A Dummie Cake Before Icing?

I have never used a dummie cake and I want to purchase some to try to use different icings and designs to get ready for my cake division in our fair this summer. What and how do I prepare my dummie to use? What works best as far as clean up and being able to reuse these dummies many times.
I've heard people talk about wrapping the dummy in cling film before icing it. If you are covering in fondant then you need to use something sticky on the dummy first. I use apricot jam on mine. Hope that helps. You could try doing a forum search. Good luck
You don't need to cover your dummy with anything before applying fondant, royal, or buttercream/PermaIce.
Sand or roll the sharp top edge of the dummy, spritz with water, apply fondant, smooth fondant. Not happy, remove fondant, re-roll, spritz dummy, re-apply. No fuss, no muss. Need to re-use the dummy--spray with water and wash off the fondant and repeat above.
If the dummy is pretty banged up, you can fill in divots with royal icing or with some gummy fondant before misting and applying the final fondant.

I never cover my dummies either. I'm a "buttercream only" person, so when I'm ready to change them, I just run a spatula under the crusted BC and it pops right off....very clean. The dummy barely needs a damp cloth run over it and it's ready to go again.
