Thanks for your help!! I would love to learn gumpaste too!
You guys are so sweet...standing ovations (gibson) and comparing me to Colette Peters (Mrs. Missey)...can you guys come and live with me so I can have my own personal cheer squad!! Every time my DH and kids make me feel unappreciated and like they're doing ME a favor by putting the dishes away or putting dirty laundry in the hamper, I could just turn around and look at you guys!! ![]()
Regarding the gumpaste workshop....try your local specialty cake supply shops...they may give classes or know someone who does. Also, try any culinary schools around your area...sometimes they offer workshops in the spring/summer for people who are interested but don't have the time, dedication, and/or money to go to culinary school full time....I've heard of some larger bakeries doing that as well.
Also, in Houston there's a group called the Frost-a-tiers...a cake club. They try to do one demo per meeting (once a month). I haven't gone myself but the instructor of my gumpaste workshop is one of the officers of that group (I think, or at least a long-time member). You could try to find a group like that around your area as well.
