The weather here in Pennsylvania, USA, is really lousy -- cold, sleeting, damp and windy.

I decided it is finally time to break out the big pot and make some soup. We got spoiled during the first two months of our Winter season - our median temperature was in the 40's, whereas it is normally in the 20's - fahrenheit, of course.

So there I was, I stayed awake all night long, cutting onion and ham, stirring in the tomatoes and seasonings, finally the beans and ditalini pasta. Now I have this huge pot of pasta e fagioli. It would be enough to feed the two of us for several days, but of course, my brother's radar has already kicked in, and he is taking some to work with him today. My son packed his bowl up for lunch very early this morning. I know my step-daughter will be calling and saying "when are you going to make the bean soup?", so won't she be surprised.

Some crusty bread with butter, and dinner is done.

So tell us, what are you doing to beat back Old Man Winter?

kids and I are home today. Snow and Ice here in NJ. ICK ICK. I think I will try my hand at chocolate clay. Do some way over due housework. Make shrimp scampi and garlic bread as my valentines dinner for my family. Good thing I went out yesterday to get all my stuff. The one bad thing my son brought flowers for girlfriend, but I will not let him drive today, so I hope they will be fine until tomorrow.

Well it is the school holidays here and today is Valentines day so with the help of my 2 boys, we are baking valentines cookies.
Have fun and enjoy your soup (sounds yummy)

The last 2 days have been horrid. We are in that whole cold blast that you all got here in MI too. I made a whole bunch of valentines day sweets for my kids classes and my DD bake sale to only have school canceled for the last 2 days. They should have school tomorrow, I'm hoping, otherwise these heart shaped brownies and choc. chip cookies are not going to make it much longer in my house.

Hmm, for DH and I it is to fire up the pellet stove, grab the fleece blanket, and stay put! haha..

For a warming inside, I have chili in the freezer I made a few weeks back.

Yay, the sun is out, and the wind chill is only a -3! The sidewalk is shoveled, the coffee is hot, and we still have soup leftover for supper tonight.

Next week the temperatures are predicted to go back into the 40s. I never wanted to get a week older so badly in my life!

On the happier side, one of my step-grandchildren decided to call me, since he is home from college until Tuesday. It's nice to know he still loves me, even though he's too tall to sit on my lap now - and even though he knows the spot will always be open for him if he ever needs it.
