I have just gotten my first order from a complete stranger
, which is great but here is the issue... She wants a carrot cake with cream cheese icing, which is not the issue. She wants the quilt cake on page 102 of the 2005 year book BUT ... Are you ready for this...
she don't want any coloring... exactly how am I sposed to do this cake without using food coloring?
I could really use some help on this one. BTW, I've done this cake twice already (not exactly, but very similar) HELP!!!
I think the all white cake are very elegant - I agree just do it in white - it will be beautiful ![]()
Have you ever heard of "candle-wicking"?
It's a type of embroidery that uses nothing but white on white background with the "stitches" makeing the patterns on the quilt or piece. You could do that in each square of your "quilt" outlining little rocking horses and bottles and bears n such with faux french knots (just little dots of frosting) and outline each square with "straight" stitches kinda like this _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ .
I hope that this helps.
I too think white on white could be lovely, but if that is not what she wants, you might consider the natural food dyes found on this website:

I have used these and they do delicate pastels very nicely. They are pretty liquid, so you can't use much. Too much and you taste the taste of the plants from which they are derived. IF the reason she doesn't want color is because she doen't want artificial color, then this might work.
I don't know how much time you have and whether they ship to Canada, but if they don't ship and you want to do this and there is time, PM me and I'll see if I can help.
There is a white fondant writing tube that you can buy, it's like a tiny white tip on the end of a bottle. You could use that over the white icing, and beings that it's white fondant icing, maybe it would be a different shade of white, and it would stand out. You could try that. I found it at Michaels.
Thanks for the info. I've decided that I would so different patterns on the quilt blocks for effect. I've also made Cali4dawn's baby booties to place on top. Hoping it'll turn out. When I get a pic I'll post it .
Thanks again everyone for your suggestions.
..another thought would be to paint the alternating squares with a white lusterdust or highlighter..that way it would still be a white on white.
I do like the idea of the different patterns on the squares..that sounds really pretty. Don't forget to take pics for us!!

Thanks for the support
I like the luster dust idea too. I will post a pic as soon as I get them. I don't have a scanner or a digital camera, but I'm gonna get it done at Walmart.
