I am fairly new to the decorating biz. This time though I just plain and simple screwed up. I got an order for a babyshower cake, specifically the bathtime ducky in the 2003 Wilton yearbook.
The shower was for a friend's sister and would be on a Saturday. I started making the fondant bubbles and soap on Thursday. I baked the cakes early Friday morning and started decorating them late that evening due to prior obligations. Although I am a perfectionist and would say otherwise, everything was going well. I finished decorating, took pictures and called it a night. The next morning I asked our little girl if she had seen the finished cake, she said no so we went to take a look together. Lo and behold the duck was laying on the table. I could have cried
but thanks to her I laughed. She said "it's still pretty and people will eat it; the ducky just couldn't swim." I decided to pull myself together and start over. My mother called to see how everything had gone and I gave her the sad news. She volunteered to bake the round cake for me so I could finish on time. Thank God for mommies!!!!!!!! What went wrong you ask??? I placed the duck on it's own cake board, stuck dowel rods in it, BUT forgot to stick the center one through the duck and into the round cake. I also forgot to put the dowel rods on the bottom cake. DOH!!! I was able to finish the cake in time for the shower, dowels and all. Thanks to my mommie of course. I am hoping I can upload this picture correctly as this is my first time posting one. ![]()
