I am trying to make a shoebox cake for my mil and everytime I try to put it on the cake it rips. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong!!! I don't think I am rolling it too thin ( its a little more than 1/4 of an inch thick) Any ideas????
maybe but I feel like I have a ton of crisco on it already ![]()
I'm sorry, I can't help... I have definitely NOT mastered fondant!
But, after my last fondant disaster, I searched the psots and here are some of the "tricks" I found. I hope they can help you!
- roll out at least 1/4 thick
- roll onto a sheet of vinyl, then use the vinyl to help transport it to the cake.
- knead it a lot
- too much powdered sugar makes it dry and crack
- after rollong, coat hands with crisco and "wipe" them over the surface carefully.
Thanks for the tips!! I didn't let it sit for a while before I used it so I am letting it sit until after the kids go to bed then I'll try again!!!
also, warm it in the microwave for 10 seconds and this makes it easier to work with!
