I went looking after I read this earlier, but so far I have not found anything in oval except the Wilton set.

Yeah, that's all I've been able to find, too. I wanted to follow Nati's tutorial for carving a car. She says to use a 3 inch deep oval and use a collar. I tried my two inch oval with a parchment paper collar and the cake rose nicely but was not tall enough to carve; my tires were too tall for the cake.

IF anyone knows where I can buy one I'd appreciate the advice!!

I understand why we are having difficulty with this one.

Nati is in Australia. Her tins, as they call them there, are made to accommodate their recipes. Most of their celebration cakes are made from what they call mud cakes, which are deep, and dense in texture.

You can try going to a worldwide search, but you might be better off baking 2 shorter ovals, filling and freezing, then carving. The shipping on the tin may not be worth it to you, if you only plan to use it one time.

no reason you can't do the 2" and layer 2 of them together. chillit before carving and you'll be fine.

I saw that, they don't ship to the U.S. But, I just had a thought: My husband is an airline pilot and flies to/fro Frankfurt once a week. I may send him on a mission to see if he can find them there!!

Just an FYI here, the prices on the AU websites are usually quoted in AU dollars. That averages to about 80 cents USD for every 1 AUD. So a tin that is priced at $10 AUD on those websites costs us $8 USD, plus the shipping.

Fill one pan and half fill or even less then half on the other I do it with all my pans it bakes quicker. You torte the full one and level out the other one and put it on top and you have 3 layers fill and ice.

I have ordered several pans from Jennifer (jennyandstefan on eBay) - great service and reasonable shipping. The pans are nice, too - very deep and much heavier than Wilton, with better definition in the shapes. I ordered one small petal pan and three hexagonals. It took her a week to get them in, then she shipped them directly to me - took about 10 days from Australia to here during the Christmas rush season thumbs_up.gif .

I know that in Wilton's Student kit, I think it's either course 2 or 3, they have 2 oval pans in there. I think they are 3 inch each? Might be 2, but I'm leaning towards 3.

The course 2 oval pans are 2 inches deep. So is their oval set. I don't think Wilton makes a 3 inch oval pan/set.
