I'm doing valentine cookies and one cake. i'm using royal icing on the cookies and to make a happy valentines day plaque type thingy to put on the cake.
but how do I get a true red? i have the christmas red and also the no taste red from Wilton.
Any help would be much appreciated. It just isn't dark enough.

If you have the no taste red from wilton you can use the hole bottle depending on how much icing you have to color to achieve a deep red, the christmas red from wilton will never turn deep enough,

hope the info helps

(adriss...your avatar is sooooo adorable!)

If ya want it a little darker, maybe try adding a little brown.....

Color it a day or so before you need it and get it to the darkest pink that you think it will take. The colors seem to settle in after a day. My very first cake had an attempt at red roses, but my icing was dark pink no matter how much I put in. However, when it actually was time to use the icing (much later in the day), it had turned into a deep red.

I tried the KoolAid trick mentioned in previous posts for a Winnie the Pooh cake two weeks ago. I did get red, but boy was that icing tart! I think I added way too much KoolAid.

thanks for all of your help.
I'll try adding some brown, and also
letting it set for a while.
