use Wilton colors again. I started using the Americolors and they are fantastic. Doesn't take much to get a beautiful color and the black works like magic (and doesn't leave a gross taste!). I don't think I even started out with chocolate icing. I may have added a bit of brown first just to be safe-can't remember! I haven't tried the red yet-didn't end up making the Elmo cake. I didn't know much about them but gave them a try and I'm glad I did!

Yes...once you try them...you'll never go back!!! I love Americolors too!!
I recently ordered some and this last week I used them for the first time.
I had a christmas cake to do so I made red, green, and black. I did about 4 cups of icing red and I did not get the bright red I wanted-even after letting it sit for two days. I used almost the entire 1.5 oz bottle. Same thing with black.
Was this too much icing for that amount of color? How much coloring to a cup of icing usually? Is there another trick that I don't know about. Now granted I received much better results than I did with wilton colors-i'm just not sure what went wrong.
Has anyone else had these problems? Any helps would be appreciated b/c the other colors I have tried of Americolor are great-not sure if it was just my experience or not.

Yes..I would think 4 cups of icing is alot !! You need to use more color!! I have the large bottles of red and black so I just keep adding until it is dark enough!!

Ok, so I wasn't crazy... at least not on this subject
I will have to invest in the larger bottles then.
Does anyone know about how much a "drop" will color well? 1 c or 1/2 c?

Yep...Americolors has my vote too! Have you tried the "Electric" Americolors? Really bright colors! They also have a gold that is great too!
I love the Electric Green!!!! It's such a spring green!
I use nothing but Americolor!

Did you know that the same company that makes Wilton's colors also make Americolor...told this by a cake supply store where I purchase my supplies.
