I am looking to do a cupcake or cake table with individual cakes or cupcakes in actual wine glasses. (or champagne). I am thinking even the plastic champane type alot of people use at new years...but a cupcake might seem lost in it. Also thinking of using the glass as a cutout...baking a cake and cutting out circles to fit the glass then icing top? I have the idea in my head of a table set up with the glasses each with cake but I can't seem to think of the best way to pull this off. Any input is appreciated. Probably will do about 40. Thanks so much!

I saw this display before, where the cupcakes are nestled in glasses.....

You could nestle the cupcake in some tissue paper sheets or shredded clear cellophane to fill the glass a bit.

you could also just turn the glasses upside-down and place each cupcake on the base instead....which is better, because you won't mess up the icing popping it into a glass or fishing it out!

I have a few thoughts, maybe one would help.
I would say to use the champagne glasses that are wide, not tall and thin. you could easily plop a cupcake down into one of those.
If you have the glasses in mind already, you could use a cookie cutter and cut out the appropriate shape out of sheet cakes (not sure how many you need)
Could you layer cake with a filling, then more cake, the frost the top? It would probably have to be eaten with a fork, but it would be pretty.
I had another idea, but I'm tired and sick and on some narcotic cough meds, and I seem to have forgotten the last one...

I would love to see pictures!\\ of whatever you decide to do!

Wow! Thanks for the picture. It looks really nice. I may have to go with doing something like that....I was thinking of a glass filled with cake and the top iced flat and garnishing with a strawberry. (So it actually looks like a drink). I am not sure how folks would feel about eating the cake right out of the glass though!

oh, sorry! I misunderstood. icon_redface.gif I thought you meant that the glass was for displaying them.

So, you want the glass to be the actual serving of the cake? Like a trifle? :

I think it would be a very elegant way to serve cake! What is the event for? A wedding?

What you are looking for is called a footed rocks glass. They come in various sizes, so you would have to contact a restaurant or bar supply store for information on what size you need. For a cupcake, you could try a 4 oz or 5.5 oz, those would be about the smallest.

The event is for my grandfathers 80th bday. I am always making cakes for the family so my aunt volunteered me....which is fine but I want to try to do something different. I am not sure of how I am thinking of doing it ...(with the cake in the glass or just displayed in it). And it amazes me how fast everyone has sent pictures and ideas already!!! The martini pic is very cool, but I don't think I feel like messing with fillings...just looking to do basic white or chocalate with buttercream. My plan is to do an ice bucket cake as well to go along with it. I tried this for a fried a couple weeks ago and it was really cute. I think it will be a hit! So because I will be spending so much time with the ice bucket I wanted to try something less time consuming with the glasses.

Shelly

did you take a picture of the ice bucket cake? I did not see one in your pics.

I am so bad about posting my pictures. I swear I really do make cakes! =)
I only have 3 pics posted from the last couple of years....I am going to try and find time to get the others done! I have done at least 10 others...

How about tissue paper in the bottom of wine glasses that would provide enough height to put a cupcake on the top...so it would still be in the glass? ANy opinions??? Would it be too gaudy? Thanks!

What about filling the glasses with cake truffle then piping on the top like you mentioned?

I'd go with thin or small glasses since it is very rich, but I think that's a great idea! I need to save that for my Christmas party next year - so cute! I think eating out of the glass is great, no cupcake liners, no plates, no cutting! SUPER!

I agree with the tissue paper idea although I would use napkins.. Have the napkin sticking out of the top of the glass with the decorated cupcake nestled inside. The napkin could then be used to get the cupcake out of the glass, for holding the cupcake while eating and for wiping the delicious icing off the lips afterwards. Post pics when you are done.

AKA Cake balls! Search the receipes if you were under a rock during Christmas and missed all the Cake Ball talk LOL! icon_lol.gif

I still think it would be soooo cute to actually eat out of the glasses, something extravagant about eating cake out of a champagne glass. I am so totally stealing this idea thumbs_up.gif

You could make the cake ball mixture, pack it into the glass, then top it off with a little icing or ganache and add your strawberry - love it! Or even use a tiny ice cream scoop to place a few scoops into the glass with some icing piped in little dots around it.... I've got to try this tomorrow and see how it would look... Sure, I've got nothing else to do - icon_rolleyes.gif

If you do the cupcakes I'd take them out of the liners and place them in the glass. Can you tell I am a big "eat with a fork" person? LOL! My DH and I even used forks when we fed each other at our wedding icon_razz.gif
