I am making a cake with a draped christening gown on top. I want to make the gown ahead of time (a day) but I don't want it to harden since it will be draped on the cake the morning of delivery. What's the best way to store this to keep is soft?

Do you have a large Tupperware that it would fit into?

I would say that not only air tight, but put a layer of plastic wrap on the decoration to keep any air away from it.
Keep some extra fondant on hand just in case you may need to re-do the decoration the day of!

Even when I put my fondant in ziploc and airtight containers, it stiffens. Freezing it is the only thing that's worked for me.

I do not mean this rudely, but I thought you couldn't freeze fondant?

You can freeze fondant.....I do all the time and it is fine!! I have frozen the WIlton one and MMF, just leave it wrapped up and let in come to room temperature... I have an assortment of colours in my freezer.....

No room for food......just cake stuff!!!

Thanks for that info. I didn't think it could be frozen either. Now I can make all the colors I want early and freeze them!! I love this site!! So much info!! Thanks again!

Sounds like my fridge with all the leftover icing colors. "But honey, I know I'm going to need that bright yellow color for something!!!"

Well, you learn something new every day...

I need a bigger freezer!!!

That would be such a big help to get things ready in advance!!!

My Wilton instructor told me about it.....she sometimes will colour a whole batch different colours, wrap it in saran, then tin foil twice, then pop it in a ziploc bag with the colour labelled on it and then when she needs to do fondant it is already coloured....like I mentioned she just takes it out leaves it wrapped up, lets it sit for 24 hours to come to room temp and away ya go!!!

WOW! I didn't know you could freeze fondant either! So could I make the gown and then freeze it? How should I store it in there? Then when it comes to room temp it's soften again?
Sorry for all the questions!!

I have never froze decorations before, just blobs of coloured fondant....when it comes to room temperature it is soft to roll out and do things with then, like before it was frozen......so I can't see why the gown wouldn't be soft again...I would just say make sure it is wrapped & sealed well...but don't take it out of any wrapping for 24 hrs or so (depending how big)...maybe do a mini trial run if you have time....wouldn't want it not to work and then you run out of time!!!
